Teacher Training Course Overview
The Bachelor of Education Degree (B.Ed.)
The B.Ed. degree offered at the Centre for Creative Education is a combined Foundation and Intermediate Phase
qualification, allowing you to teach from Grade R to Grade 6. There are advantages in being able to teach
across a wide range of ages, such as wider employabilitiy and a more varied (and therefore more exciting)
The B.Ed. programme has been fully accredited by the Council on Higher Education's Higher Education Quality Committee
(CHE/HEQC) and registered with the Department of Education (certificate 2000 / HE08 / 003), and recognized by the South African
Council for Educators (SACE). This backing allows graduates to teach in
mainstream schools (public or independent/private), as well as Waldorf schools throughout South Africa.
Full-time or Part-time?
The Centre offers the B.Ed. programme in both full-time (4 years of study) and part-time (6 years of study) modes.
The full-time programme, provides a large percentage of course-based time, facilitating your development as
fully as possible.
The part-time programme exists for those who are working during the day, or already in a teaching post.
Course-based time is limited due to studying evenings and certain Saturdays in the year, and therefore more self-study
is required to fulfil all the requirements of the B.Ed. programme. Part-time students need to be able to make
arrangements that will ensure their availability for doing the teaching practicals in schools required at the
various stages of the training.
Full-Time: 4 years (Mondays – Fridays, 33 weeks per year)
Part-Time: 6 years (2 evenings per week, 36 weeks per year + 12-14 Saturday mornings per year +
